Air Jordan XX - 20 Years of Air Jordan

The Air Jordan XX (20) was designed to be a dedication to the greatness of Michael Jordan as well as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Air Jordan. The Air Jordan XX was officially available in retail stores on February 19th, 2005. At the time, the Air Jordan XX was the most technologically advanced shoe in the world. "Welcome to the future", was one of the leading slogans in the advertising campaign for Air Jordan XX.

Laser-Etched Greatness

The most noticeable feature of the Air Jordan XX is the laser-etched design on the lace cover. The laser etched strap featured over 200 symbols that cover many of Michael Jordan's achievements as well as stories connected to Michael Jordan's life and career. Michael Jordan has stated: "The Air Jordan XX is a reflection and celebration of my life and career over the past two decades. It's always been more than just a shoe to me. I'm honored that even after 20 years, my loyal fans and friends have continued to support me and the legacy of Air Jordan."

The Return of Tinker Hatfield

Tinker Hatfield was once again the lead the designer of the 20th anniversary Air Jordan. With Tinker having over 10 years of experience designing Air Jordans ( He designed Air Jordan III (3) through Air Jordan XV (15)), he was the perfect choice for the Air Jordan XX. Hatfield's inspiration for the Air Jordan XX was motorcycle tires. The design was also inspired by bicycling shoes which is why the strap was placed in the center of the shoe over the laces. This design also helped create a tight fit while providing increased support.

Breakthrough Design

The Air Jordan XX featured a breakthrough Independent Podular Suspension (IPS) cushioning System, ultra-breathable Sphere lining, an integrated midfoot support strap, a floating multi-position ankle leash and internalized impact distribution plate. IPS was a brand new suspension technology developed for the Air Jordan XX that used individual pods to support the feet in key areas.
