Air Jordan XV - The Fighter Jet Air Jordan

The Air Jordan XV (15) was released after Michael Jordan's second retirement from basketball. Many assumed that once Michael Jordan retired, the Air Jordan line would be discontinued. Nike and the Jordan Brand decided to continue releasing Air Jordan sneakers even after Michael's retirement. The design for the XV was the X-15 aircraft that was designed by NASA in the 1950's. Many also claim that the red striping on the heel of the shoe was stolen from the Italian shoemaker Prada.

The tongue's sticking out

The tongue of the Air Jordan XV's stick out to remind fans of Michael Jordan sticking out his tongue as he made an acrobatic move on the basketball court. The sides of the sneaker were in a woven pattern. Along with the tongue sticking out, the Air Jordan XV featured the hidden quick-lace system, seamless dynamic-fit sleeve, Kevlar mesh uppers, Zoom Air sole, rubber herringbone pods, injected TPR external heel counter, and a breathable leather pattern.

The Air Jordan XV was designed to pay homage to Michael Jordan. On the heel of the Air Jordan XV, the letters 23/6/15 are inscribed. These numbers are there to pay tribute to:

  • Michael Jordan's jersey number
  • Michael Jordan's NBA championships
  • The Number of Air Jordan Models available at the time

Arrival of the Mocs

The Air Jordan XV was released as a high-top, a low-top and as Mocs. The Mocs were supposed to be stylish and cool. They were something to wear in the summertime, or while relaxing on the beach. Mocs were not very good to play basketball in.

Disliked by Many Fans

The Air Jordan XV's were never worn on the basketball court by Michael Jordan. This could explain why they were not very popular with Air Jordan fans. The Air Jordan did not sell very well. In fact, many Air Jordan fans dislike the Air Jordan XV. The shoe was very uncomfortable, the inner sleeve was too loose and the overall quality was not very good.
